Do Opposites Attract? The Reverse Cookie Agrees
Ok, I might have said before that there is nothing more perfect than the traditional chocolate chip cookie, and the recipe should be left alone, well I lied. These are beyond delicious and should be your new go-to cookie recipe. They are big and chewy with crispy edges, and the blend of flavors will satisfy any sweet tooth. When trying to find a light chip to use, there are some other options. You could use white chocolate or yogurt, but the butterscotch adds such a delightful flavor to the chocolate dough that I highly recommend using them for these Opposites Attract Reverse Cookies.
Ingredients for Opposites Attract Cookies
- All-purpose flour
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Salted butter
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Eggs
- Cocoa powder
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Butterscotch chips
Tools Needed for Opposites Attract Cookies
- Silicone Baking Mats– I literally use these mats ALL THE TIME. I never have to worry about a cookie sticking ever again.
- Hand Mixer
- Nesting Bowl– These are the best. There is a size for every ingredient amount you have. Because they are glass, they clean so easily, no residue left behind and they don’t hold onto any orders. The nesting bowls store perfectly and they are pretty enough to use as serving bowls for salads, fruit, dips, etc.
How to make your Opposites Attract Reverse Cookies
In a medium bowl, combine your flour, baking soda, and salt and set it aside. In a larger bowl, cream your butter and both brown and granulated sugars. Add in your eggs and vanilla extract and mix with your electric hand mixer. Start adding your flour mixture to your butter and sugar, mixing between the additions. Next, divide the dough into two equal parts. To one of the doughs, you will add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and mix. To the other dough, add 1 tablespoon of flour and blend. The addition of flour is to help the dough not spread too thin while baking. One cup of butterscotch chips gets added to your chocolate dough, and one cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips gets tossed into the blonde cookie dough.
Marrying The Opposites Attract Reverse Cookies
Now we can marry the two doughs together to make the perfect cookie relationship. Preheat your oven to 375 F. degrees and line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. The easiest way to assemble the cookies is by dropping a tablespoon of one of the doughs into eight piles, leaving lots of space in between. Then add a tablespoon of the other dough right beside. Once all the cookies have their match, gently push the doughs together, ensuring the two doughs are sealed. Add a couple of corresponding chips to the cookie’s top and pop into the oven for 8-10 minutes. These reverse cookies are big, so they may take a minute or two longer, but remove as soon as the center has just set and the edges are golden brown.
Let the reverse cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes to finish firming up and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
These Opposites Attract Reverse Cookies were so much fun to both make and name. We involved family members in helping come up with creative names, bribing them with cookies, of course. Some runner ups were Ebony and Ivory, Starry Night, and Get In My Belly Cookies; all great, so feel free to make these yourself and name them whatever you like! The only other thing that’s more fun than naming and making the cookies are eating these babies. They are perfect for any dessert, especially for kids. They are just the right size for a single serving, but no judgment if you eat more than one.
